Cinnamon and Belly Fat
Have you ever wondered why people buy cinnamon in capsules? Or add cinnamon to EVERYTHING. Well, they could just be enjoying the spicy flavor, but there are real health benefits to cinnamon as well.
Cinnamon has been mentioned as one of the “healthiest spices in the world” and even called “the fat burning spice” and with regular use, it can actually help you in your fight against belly fat AND reduce your cravings. Cinnamon is known to help control blood sugar, maintain insulin sensitivity, it’s a powerful antioxidant, and is said to have anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, and that is just scratching the surface of cinnamon’s benefits.
Yeah, but what about the “fat burning part?”
Got it. Well, the cool thing about cinnamon is that it is not a stimulant (hello stimulant sensitive peeps!), it doesn’t directly rev up your fat burning by increasing your metabolism. It works indirectly and over time. It’s one of those “healthy habits” to add to your repertoire.
Cool, but how does it work?
There have been a few studies done over the years, that show that certain types of cinnamon have strong effects on controlling blood sugar levels in your body. It works because cinnamon increases insulin sensitivity, and high insulin causes your body to store more fat. Basically, cinnamon allows your body to produce less insulin and helps your human suit to control blood sugar.
In more recent studies, scientists tried to determine the potency required. Each batch of cinnamon has a different potency and is made up of a different type or combination of types of cinnamon. And apparently its virtually impossible.
So, how do I use it?
The studies show that it’s optimal to use 1-2 grams a day (1 tsp is approx a gram) for 40 days or approximately 6 weeks to see results. The most simple way to use it would be to keep a shaker on the counter and add it to every food and beverage it sounds good on or in. This is a relatively safe way to increase your bodies cinnamon intake.
You could also buy it in the capsule form, and use it pre-meals. A good regime might be to take 1 capsule pre-meal, especially if you will be consuming more than 30 carbs or grams of sugar at said meal.
Is there anything to be cautious about?
As you know, herbs, spices, and other natural remedies can be as strong as medications, so use caution. Cinnamon is processed by the liver, so consider that if you have liver damage or disease then this may not be the best remedy for you.
Always work with a qualified health professional.
