What do you think of when you hear grounding? I used to have flash backs of getting in a little trouble as a teen and being “grounded” to my room or from my phone or car. Also thoughts of a plane that isn’t allowed to take off, or the “mouth” on an electrical outlet (get it? LOL).
In recent years, the term Grounding has been the backbone of a movement designed to get people back in touch with the earth, because of all of the physical healing benefits. (You may have also heard it called Earthing.) This contact used to happen frequently, when people didn’t live and work in high-rises, when people worked the earth with their hands for their food. But now humans are generally blocked from the earth’s grounding energy by shoes and floors in our homes and workplaces.
You see our bodies are full of electrical current and absorb electrical current (electrons, positive and negative) from our environment around us. Our bodies are bioelectrical by design. (No don’t grab your foil hats…the earth is a giant magnet…its science ya’ll!) This is the reason that you use electric shock to restart the heart or put it back into rhythm. I won’t go directly into all of the anatomy and physiology, but if you would like an in-depth lesson, please do reach out.
To directly quote the book, “Earthing“: “Earthing restores and maintains the human body’s most natural electrical state, which in turn promotes optimum health and functionality in daily life. The primordial natural energy emanating from the Earth is the ultimate anti-inflammatory and the ultimate anti-aging medicine.”
Being more in-tune to nature has helped people massively over time as it gets them back to a state of calmness. Using herbal and natural remedies can help too, instead of using western medicine they go for a stripped-down approach and want to put something in their bodies that are purer. Marijuana is one of these products that more people are using for its anti-inflammatory properties and its relaxing effects. Sites such as https://myfloridagreen.com/ can help those who want to learn more about marijuana, as well as what dispensaries are out there and information on a medical marijuana card. You see, it is increasingly popular these days and many industries are adopting it as the main means for sale. It can be a profitable business as a lot of people are interested in the constantly developing products in the marijuana world. These can be CBD infused items as well, you can even get CBD coffee these days for an example of a wild and wacky creation. They are now available for purchase, especially for retailers, who can find cbd coffee wholesale providers, as one example, to obtain these products. The best thing about these remedies or methods is that they are natural and organic, so they are healthy for your body. So anyway let’s get talking about grounding.
What is Grounding?
Grounding is putting your body in contact with the earths surface to connect and absorb the natural, negative charge. In a nutshell the theory is that is combats all of the positive electrons and free radicals you come in contact with in our modern environment.
You can accomplish this quiet simply by going outside barefoot, touching a tree with a bare hand, and even indoors with grounding tools, and energetic/spiritual grounding (more on that in Part 2).
What are the benefits of Grounding?
Oh, there are so many benefits of grounding! Many of these have real, peer-reviewed studies emerging with them! Here are just a few:
- normalization of biological rhythms (including circadian rhythms)
- decreased muscle tension
- decreased stress hormones (you know the ones that help you carry extra weight around the middle)
- reduced stress
- increase and improved quality of sleep
- increase energy
- reduction in chronic pain
- reduction in inflammation (everywhere)
- reduction in PMS and cramping
- reduction or elimination of snoring
- decreased recovery time for injury and athletic recovery (yes, pro athletes use this too!)
- speeds physical healing (and is even being used to prevent bedsores)
Trust me I could go on and on! Grounding is also being studied for the benefits of age related illness and mental faculties.
How do I know if I need to be Grounded?
Chances are you do. If you have any of the above ailments, you need to be grounded. And frankly if you spend most of your time indoors or outdoors with shoes on…you need to be grounded.
How do I ground?
Outdoors it is as simple as being barefoot on the earth or sometimes even concrete for about 30 minutes per day. You can put your hands or body on the earth. You can in some cases ground through fabric (we will test that theory in the challenge too!) In our upcoming Grounding Challenge, we will be working our way up to 30 minutes at a time and exploring (and testing!) ways that you can ground alternatively. (Join here-lots of great prizes). If you are unable to get barefoot, you can put a bare hand on a tree that is rooted in the ground. Walking in the ocean also is great for grounding.
Indoors it can be a little trickier, you can purchase tools like earthing mats and straps to help you get grounded indoors. I recommend that you use or sleep on a grounding mat so that you can combine the powerful negative ions AND restorative REM sleep for the ultimate in self healing.
Thursday we will be exploring Grounding Part 2!
