Food that Helps with Anxiety (and some energy medicine tricks too)
Did you know that food can help with anxiety? It’s not a replacement for a broad treatment for clinical anxiety BUT it can help with daily anxiety and is part of a holistic approach to defeating anxiety for good.
It’s funny, we often put a lot of thought into proactively doing things to improve the way we look, what outfits we are going to wear, and maybe even our immune systems. But anxiety is something that can be combated with proactive habits just as well as anything else we are working on. Even seeking out alternative remedies or looking for CBD gummies for sale that can help put your mind in a better state and rid you of anxiety can be a step in the right direction, which not many people take often.
Maybe this episode should be called why you should be proactive instead of “Foods that help with anxiety”?
Today we are going to dive into some nutrients that you can seek out proactively in your diet and other foods that help with anxiety.

Foods that Help with Anxiety
Rough Transcript (listening is best)
Are you proactive with your anxiety?
Did you know that food can help with anxiety? It’s not a replacement for a broad treatment for clinical anxiety BUT it can help with daily anxiety and is part of a holistic approach to defeating anxiety for good.
It’s funny, we often put a lot of thought into doing things to improve the way we look and maybe even our immune systems. But anxiety is something that can be combated with proactive habits just as well as anything else we are working on.
Maybe this episode should be called why you should be proactive instead of “Foods that help with anxiety”?
Today we are going to dive into some nutrients that you can seek out proactively in your diet and other foods that help with anxiety.
Welcome if this is your first time listening - I’m Audrey Christie - I’m a functional and integrative nurse nutritionist and energy medicine practitioner. I help women stop chasing symptoms and find relief and ultimately learn how to heal their bodies from autoimmune disease.
We often put a lot of thought into doing things regularly to boost our immune systems, what we wear, how we workout, etc. We know the necessary items that need to be present in our diet and lives to achieve these things, and we boost them even more during specific times of the year.
There's another issue we all deal with that can be combated with proactive habits -- overwhelm all the way up to anxiety.
When Energy Medicine and Conventional Medicine Merge
For the overwhelm and anxiety that comes with daily life, I like to look deep into where the energy medicine and traditional medicine merge.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, our kidneys are the body's central source of yin and yang. When our kidneys aren't functioning optimally, other health problems, including anxiety, arise.
The world we live in today takes a significant toll on our kidneys, whether we know it or not. These issues can be small enough to go undiagnosed by physicians but can have a substantial impact on the rest of our bodies.
Factors such as stress, poor sleep quality, environmental toxins, and alcohol can be extremely taxing on the kidneys and the power packs that sit on top - your adrenal glands.
Energetically the adrenal glands and the kidneys as the same organ. The adrenals are two glands that are located on top of your kidneys. They are responsible for the production and regulation of essential hormones, including those involved in the stress response.
When the adrenal glands become overworked, through too much stress, lack of sleep, or those other factors, they are unable to function normally, resulting in adrenal fatigue. This leads to numerous symptoms, including insomnia, sadness, digestive problems, weak immune functioning, autoimmune triggers and flares, and especially anxiety.
By working with the kidneys to restore the function of the adrenal glands energetically and through specific foods, you can help ease some symptoms of anxiety and overwhelm.
Feeding your kidneys optimally is pretty simple, you should eat tangerines, plums, grapes, grains such as amaranth, rye, oats, and barley, celery, asparagus, cabbage, and black beans.
However, it beneficial to know whether your kidneys are deficient energetically in the yin or yang and treat them accordingly.
Yin Energy Imbalance
The yin is responsible for cooling and hydrating the body. If they are yin deficient, you might experience symptoms such as insomnia, night sweats, dry skin, eyes, and mouth, and brittle hair. Chlorella is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the kidneys' yin.
Spirulina, another type of algae, also works great. It would be best if you also were eating carrots, grapefruit, celery, cucumber, blueberries, soybeans, kidney beans, and watermelon. These are considered 'cold' foods that will help increase your yin.
Energy Medicine for Yin
Tapping your K-27 points just below your collar bone can also help to ease the overwhelm and right an energy imbalance.
Simply place your fingers on your collar bone and follow it to the center of your body, near your throat. When you reach the end of each collar bone, move your fingers about an inch down - usually you will find a soft spot or little nook there. Tap those points while breathing deeply - try for about 30 seconds. To amp it up a bit, you can cross your arms so that your right hand taps the left point and left-hand taps the right point.
Yang Energy
Yang, on the other hand, is responsible for stimulating and warming up your body. If your kidneys are deficient in yang, you might experience diarrhea, lower back pain, fatigue, and feeling cold. Generally, symptoms are worse in the morning. If this is your case, eat "warming" foods such as cinnamon, ginger, cloves, walnuts, quinoa, and black beans. Avoid any iced drinks and raw foods and try to limit your fruit intake as these are all considered 'cooling' foods that will only worsen your yin-yang imbalance.
Energy Medicine for Yang
There are two points, often referred to as the Wellspring of Life points, these are right in the ball of your foot. In the center of the sole of the foot, up against the ball or the pad that you walk on if you are standing on your tip-toes. Use this point if you are in the Yang energy.
I also have found that placing hematite down near your feet helps with this as well.
Other Anxiety Solutions
Aside from foods and energy medicine to help stimulate healthy kidney function, balance energy, and reduce anxiety. I have found some other tools that help really well:
Meditation and Meditation Apps
Apps such as Headspace or Calm can help you fit meditation into your schedule in just a few minutes per day, and this time to clear your mind can transform your entire day. I am often a fan of not using help for this - so check out my free guide on how to meditate when you don’t have time or just plain “can’t.”
Tapping
Tapping your meridians as described before can be super beneficial. There are programs out there that can guide you through tapping routines and energy releases that are oh so helpful! My favorite is the Tapping Source - its available as an app on your phone.
Essential Oils
Orange is one of the least expensive and most favorite for anxious feelings. I also really love Sacred Mountain for this. For these two, the most effective technique is a scent tent.
Put a few drops in your hand, swish it around in figure 8. Then cup your nose and inhale deeply/exhale deeply a few times.
You can also take Juniper Essential Oil or Valor Essential Oil and draw a small figure 8 from left to right about an inch above your belly button to help release the energetic bonds that tie you to daily overwhelm and anxiety.
A simple tip if you feel like your energy work isn’t lasting -- that can be a sign that you need to balance your minerals (the polarity in your cells) so that your body is more receptive to energy work (and nutrition and everything else). My favorite for this is Mineral Essence.
So if you are struggling with daily anxiety - whether it is part of your autoimmune condition or not - please try adding these foods into your diet to help.
I created a free resource for you, its called 5 Steps to You can Start TODAY to begin healing from Your Autoimmune Disease, And its specifically simple steps you can take right now - including changing your mindset, adding nutritious foods and help you shift to a healing path. You can download it on the show notes page or your podcast player.
To wrap this up -
I would love to hear which of these foods you plan on adding to your diet, reach out to me on social - you can get all the links in the show notes page at audreychristie.com/122
Thank you so much for tuning in, if you have a second it would mean the world to me if you could leave a rating or review! That helps me help more people get clear of autoimmune disease. I’d be oh so grateful.
I hope you have the most magical and restful day friends, and I challenge you to leave your world, however you can, a little better than how you found it when you got up this morning.
Be well.
