Daily Practice for Healing Psoriasis
TRANSCRIPT EPISODE 101
Will a daily ritual heal your psoriasis? Nah. Probably not all on its own but it certainly does set the framework for successfully healing your psoriasis. (And you will for sure heal some other roots along the way.)
Successful healing is a multifaceted approach, not just nutrition, not just supplements, not just essential oils, not topicals at all (those only treat the surface) - instead, it requires the full body, mind, and spirit approach. Your whole human suit and energy are complementary AND connected and must be healed in concert to achieve true healing rather than temporary masking of symptoms.
Today we are going to talk about setting up your daily morning routine so that you can maximize your success on your psoriasis healing journey.

Take Back Your Time
You’ve heard that you can’t get time back right? This daily practice will take between 20-30 minutes first thing in the morning - but it seems to multiply your time elsewhere.
Tuning Into the Rhythms of Nature
First let's talk about rhythms - mother nature, mother earth, humans, all things operate in rhythms - you could set your watch by it - and in fact, many of our timekeeping things - like calendars evolved from these natural rhythms of the earth.
Four Seasons
If we zoom out on practices we can look at things like the four seasons.
Winter, for example, is where the seed of what is to grow in the coming seasons are planted - so think of the shortened days of winter like really dark fertile soil. Then Spring is more renewal with nature awakening from her slumber in the spring. Sprouts and buds start to appear.
Moving into Summer which is the energy of activation, creation, manifestation. The long summer days offer us the fuel to put in long hours of work and pleasure. This is the time to take on those projects and accomplish those goals! People are out and about, networking, collaborating, celebrating
And then we go back to Fall, harvest time and release time. Letting go of what no longer serves you and ensuring you don’t accumulate.
Daily Rhythms
Then you can get a little more zoomed in to the day - you can think in terms of circadian rhythms. So working with the energy of light and dark - getting a solid night's sleep and waking with purpose.
Microstressors and Micro-Traumas
Most people when they get up the first thing that they do they wake up to their alarms with all their phones and before their brains have even come out of their theta sleeping state the entire world and its agenda is coming at them these are called micro stressors. Microstressors can trigger flares for psoriasis, especially when they accumulate.
By the time that an average workday starts at 9 a.m., the average person has gone through anywhere between 15 and 40 micro stressors. Then are these cascading effects that make it harder to eat healthily, manage stress, and make good choices. Sometimes these micro stressors become micro-traumas, especially if you are suffering from an autoimmune condition and something stressful like the news is your wake up practice of choice. It's all people dying you know things blowing up you're not really prepared to deal with that first thing in the morning.
What does this have to do with healing psoriasis?
When you're coming out of sleep you move into this thing is called a theta state where your brain is neither waking nor sleeping are you kind of have access to the subconscious in a way that you don't during your normal conscious waking state but your brain is also it's most vulnerable in that - its the state that is most impressionable other people's ideas and suggestions coming at you or that kind of news is much more triggering then it might be later in the day when you have your defenses up. So part of starting a daily practice is to use that state to your advantage.
If you claim those first few minutes for yourself and you use them to set an intention to establish yourself as a sovereign individual in your energy and your body and your life - you play out what implants in your mind, body and energy field in a way that is extremely valuable to you.
When we bring this information back to rhythms, anytime we are creating a routine or ritual that we want to stick to - it is important to use these rhythms of nature, from the seasons to the circadian and ultradian rhythms to our favor. This helps to ensure that your energy stays balanced and your stress level stays neutral so that you can heal psoriasis and keep flares to a minimum.
8 Steps to a daily practice to heal psoriasis:
- Get out of bed and drink water on your way to your meditation spot. (Yes, this requires a little forethought the night before to have water at your bedside, but I would bet many of you keep it there).
- Sit in my meditation spot, light a candle, or start an essential oil diffusing.
- Take 5 big deep inhales, filling the belly all the way up and exhaling completely each time.
- Pray for a few moments. (Mine are usually short - but it's up to you)
- Meditate for 10-15 minutes. You can use guided meditations or use nothing at all. I go back and forth depending on how I’m feeling.
- Pray again for a few moments if anything comes up you need to address.
- Then energy medicine 4-Thumps routine, the video below. But you start with tapping the cheeks, this helps you to ground its stomach 1 on the stomach meridian. Then tap k27 which I talk about often, it's the crossroads for your energies and helps to energize you for the day, then tap your thymus, right in the center of your chest. And lastly, tap the center of the left and right side of your chest just below your chest. This helps you to metabolize everything, physical stuff like the actual food you put in your body and mental stuff like your food. You can add a couple of sun salutations at the end here too.
- Then finish your water on your way to coffee/work/getting ready etc.
Those 8 simple steps - will get you started on a quick and easy routine to start your day off on the right foot energetically and with that body-mind connection and that spiritual connection that is so integral in healing psoriasis.
4 Thumbs Routine
Now linking back to the natural rhythms of things - how might this practice change seasonally?
For me, I tend to do more slow and intentional work in the winter - its a more restful practice. In the summer I move a little faster, maybe add sun gazing to do this practice outside in the mornings. How would you adjust that to the seasonal rhythms?
If 8 steps seem overwhelming - start with just 1 thing - get up and do 1 act of self-care before you do ANYTHING else.
Another strategy may be to add one step at a time to work up to all 8 steps altogether.
Wrap Up
To wrap this up, we know that healing psoriasis is not a matter of slather on a cream or topical solution - it is a multi-layered approach that requires treating your body, mind, and spirit because they are all connected and contributing to the outward symptoms of your autoimmune condition.
