Well it spring! And in an effort to shave some more off the grocery budget, spend some more time outdoors, and get the littles involved…we are planting a big ol’ garden.
In my research, we went to the library to look at ways to grow an organic garden. Then the hubs “accidentally” put some chemicals in our spot for the garden…errrr miscommunication there. LOL In light of that we are container gardening this year, next year we will build and plant raised beds. We still need to get some tools and a shed for the garden, but we’re on a tight budget. I’ve heard that you can get something like rent to own sheds, so perhaps I will look into that as it might be easier than paying it off in one go.
I think we are all very excited to get started, especially me, as this is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I just can’t wait to be able to save some money, as most of it seems to be going on our groceries. That’s why I’m hoping that growing our own products can help to make a difference. I know just how much work goes into gardening, so I have been thinking about looking for an on-site shed builder, in the hopes that having somewhere to store all of our equipment and tools can help to make the process easier. I’ve heard that many other people have decided to build a shed for this exact reason, with some positive results. I think I’ll have to do some more research on this first though, plus my mind seems to be more focused on having everything ready to build our raised beds.
This could be an ideal starting point in improving the overall appearance of a garden, as who doesn’t love to see beautiful plants growing in their backyard? Once we have an established space for our garden beds, we may start having a think about building our own composite decking, (you can learn more at https://www.dinodecking.co.uk/category/composite-decking-boards/) so that the whole area is looking fresh and new. It may even persuade us to spend more time in the garden as a family, what with our new organic garden expecting to make itself noticed before long.
To be honest, it is about time that we gave our garden a bit of a makeover. For example, our old paving slabs have been looking so tired recently. I know that a friend of mine managed to get some gorgeous traditional paving slabs from Westminster Stone a few months ago so I think I am going to take a look at what they have to offer. Ideally, I would like some grey paving slabs that can pave the way towards our new decking. What do you think? Feel free to share any paving slab recommendations with me as I would love to hear from you.
Anyway, here’s our little video on what we are doing:
