Happy 4th of July to all of our stateside readers!
Do you have HUGE plans?
We usually have a big time on the 4th, but I do miss the old days where we would shoot $100s of fireworks all day and all night. Or going to a bar with your friend who definitely has a legit fake id only to get turned away… good times! Times have changed, and most places (even sort of out in the sticks) don’t allow fireworks at private residences any longer. Snakes and sparklers are about it!
One thing that remains the same… people still party their tails off for the 4th!
Here are 4 tips in case YOU fall into the party like a rockstar category this Independence Day:
- Stay hydrated. Even better if you do it with filtered water. It’s hot in most parts of the country right now, and I would bet you that you are NOT drinking enough water (no…soda, tea, etc does not count). A good rule to live by is to drink half of your body weight (in pounds) in ounces of water. So if you weigh 150 pounds, then you would aim for 75 ounces of water a day. If you are adding booze to the mix, then add an extra 8-12 ounce glass of water for each alcoholic drink you partake in.
- “Healthy” booze. Okay so that is a bit of a misnomer…booze is poison to your body plain and simple. But if you chose to partake, then let’s make sure we chose the healthiest options out there. Beer is NOT a good choice, it is empty nutritionally, full of gluten (made from grains). Choose a sulfite-free organic wine, hard liquor distilled from non-grain sources (potato or grape vodka for example), or certified gluten-free liquor. Light-colored or clear liquors have less sugar than darker spirits, so choose wisely in that department as well. In retrospect, you just need to pick something that can help to ease your stomach; that’s all there is to it really. But when it comes to a hangover, the last thing you want to do is go and buy your desired beverage, so looking into something like this liquor delivery denver service beforehand could be particularly important when it comes to the recovery process. It also means that you could have more variety to choose from, which could be perfect if you don’t know what to look for. Hangovers are most often caused by dehydration and/or too many sugary drinks so you must watch out for mixers too, those are almost always either super sugary OR filled with dangerous artificial sweeteners. Your best bet to choose some form of water, carbonated even, and add a twist of citrus juice (straight from the fruit). I can hear the complaints already “but I don’t like the taste of vodka without my sugary mixer!” Uhm, then why are you drinking it??!?
If you are looking for some healthy-er options…head over to the Facebook page here or post below and ask about your fav drink! I’ll put together a recipe especially for you!
- BYOS. You have heard of BYOB (beer) and maybe even BYOC (chairs) well bring your own snacks too. Now if this is your day to eat whatevs, then go for it. But if you are really focused on the optimal nutrition, wellness and health for your body OR if you are currently fighting a chronic illness or disease…then BYOS. This way you can be SURE you are avoiding gluten and other additives that are important for you to avoid. As I tell my kids, the only way you are sure of what is in a food item, is if we prepared it at home.
- Make BBQ as healthy as possible. So I know, many of you feel EVERYTHING causes cancer… well it can feel like it sometimes. But lets try to mitigate the causes as much as possible and one place is the grill. You can reduce cancer-causing AGEs in grilled foods by using an acidic marinade on your meat-de-jur for a minimum of one hour before you toss it on the coals.
Keep it safe and stay on track this 4th! And don’t forget to post your questions!
