Crystals for Kids

July 14, 2016 By Audrey Christie

My crystal collection is ever growing, and my kids are super drawn to their energy–so now their crystal collection is growing!

At first I was totally against this, and I would tell them not to touch my crystals for fear they would lose or break them. Now we enjoy using and playing with our crystals, admiring them and just soaking up their amazing energy. So it’s safe to say me and the kids might very well have to be searching around for some more, for me and them! Reading information online into different stones and crystals, from sites like Lunary Crystals and others can be a good way to get a feel for what crystals you may need for your life and energies you experience. So my kids are enjoying reading into the potential benefits of each crystal we look at.

I have started to include them in the things I do with them and discuss what their uses might be for and always let them touch and experience them, meditate with them. And since they have started their own collection they reach for mine less and less.

A lot of people wonder though, are there benefits to letting your kiddos play and work with your crystals?

I say, yes!

See kiddos are often deeply connected to nature and the natural world. Which is why they naturally gravitate towards them even at young ages and crystals have amazing healing powers.

How Kids Can Work With Crystals

Here are a few ways you can let your kids use healing crystals (amend for age appropriateness):

  • Allow the child to wear the crystal on the body in jewelry.
  • Keep it on their person, maybe in their pocket or tied to a belt loop or shoelace.
  • Under or inside a pillowcase or on a bedside table or windowsill. Maybe even a geode as a permanent fixture in their bedroom.
  • Placed in their bathwater or at the edge of the tub.
  • Held during meditation (Yes, kids can meditate! Check out kidcentered.com)

What Crystals Kids Can Work With

Well you want to stay away from toxic crystals for SURE! And make sure they know not to put them in their mouth. Often times its best to let them go with you to a crystal or rock shop and let them choose for themselves. You can even let them play in your collection and then see which one resonates and go get that stone for them.

I started each of my kids with a mini chakra set, 8 stones, they can use as they see fit. They get to keep it in their rooms. Then I got them each an Amethyst Geode for beside their bed. It totally helps with good dreams.

The cool thing about the chakra sets is that it comes with a good balance of starter stones AND it comes with a little card matching the stones to the chakras. Even my youngest, who is not reading age, was able to do her own healing work because she looked at the card and figured it out.

Check this out, I totally caught her by surprise (and myself by surprise) when I caught her in the act:Katie_crystalhealing

Kids and Crystals Tips

You can cleanse the crystals periodically with water for actual dirt and stickiness that comes with kids and clean them energetically by placing them in the moonlight, or using sound to re-tune them (here is a great post from Hibiscus Moon about that: http://hibiscusmooncrystalacademy.com/crystal-cleansing-with-energy/) no need for me to re-create the wheel there.
